The presentation of the Low Carbon Soy Program (SBC), held on April 16, highlighted the stages of construction of this initiative that aims to add value to soy produced in systems that are competitive and that contribute to combating global warming. According to the general manager of Embrapa Soja, Alexandre Nepomuceno, the concept focuses on measuring the benefits and certifying production practices that are proven to have low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The proposal is to create a Brazilian methodology, based on internationally validated scientific protocols, within two years. To this end, objectively measurable, reportable and verifiable criteria will be created. “The Program will provide scientific parameters so that Brazilian soybean farmers can certify that soybeans were produced with low carbon emission intensity and, thus, add value to the national product”, highlights Nepomuceno.
